We Always Have a Choice (I'm back.)

I took a hiatus from writing and blogging in 2020. There are no words to justly describe it. It was like being on a rollercoaster of emotions while blindfolded, never knowing when it might end.
Initially, I was low-key panicked long before everyone else. I told a coworker, a nurse, “Have you heard about the virus in Wuhan?” She laughed, “Oh, it’s just the flu.” I told my neighbor about the virus and he dismissed me, “Bah.”
Towards the end of 2020, I was over it. You can only be paranoid for so long until you drive yourself insane. Which is why I went to Mexico. Salud!

Finally, with the 2020 presidential election and the suppression of conservative voices from nasty places, I decided not to publish anything online. However, in that space, I won some writing scholarships and switched careers--a great opportunity.
The pandemic made me reflect on life. I saw that a world without choice is a very dark place. And I found that no matter how narrow our options are, we always have a choice.
So now, I continue to write. There is a truth to be told and I choose to tell it.
