Hau'oli Makahiki Hou!

Much has happened since my last post in mid-2018. First of all, Hawaii pretty much elected all the same politicians, including a governor who received an "F" grade for fiscal policy. Talk about mediocre. But, in a democracy, the people get what they vote for - whether it's for better or for worse.

I decided to lay low for a hot second because elections always rile up the worst in some of us. For example, a very close friend did a one-eighty and attacked me on a large social media account for supporting a local female gubernatorial candidate. Reading his comments felt like I'd been sucker punched; not only was it mean-spirited, it felt like a betrayal of trust. It still hurts a little today.

Nevertheless, we must learn from the past, make corrections, and move forward. If we get mired in the emotions of 2018, we'll never find success in 2019!

My strategy this year is to Be the Best Version of Myself. I want to apply a wholistic approach to this that includes self-care, spirituality, fitness, diet, work, education, and of course, a healthy, positive dose of political activism.

Politics doesn't have to be mean - there can be civil discourse and that starts with us.

So starting this year, I will try to reserve judgment. As much as possible, I will turn the other cheek, be open-minded, and remain objective. In truth, we all want the same things, and to achieve them, we need to work together. One of the greatest laws of the universe is to love our fellow-men as ourselves - whether they be our friends or political adversaries.
