Scout Me Out.

Bowing to pressure from liberals, the Boy Scouts of America announced that they'd incorporate girls and would rebrand as, "Scouts". Their biggest sponsor, the LDS church, well-known for hardline values, promptly pulled their 300K membership.

This issue pointedly highlights the a difference between liberals and conservatives:

Liberals prescribe to a progressive philosophy in which traditions are seen as restrictive. In my opinion, they take a perverse pleasure in tearing down establishments and rewriting their names on it. In the Boy Scouts situation, the discrimination and political motivation are apparent: Liberals and feminists needed another cause, found an easy target, and weaseled their way to victory.

On the other hand, conservatives tend to follow traditions because they believe in the value of wisdom from generations' past. Many religious groups (and also biologists, like myself) believe in the immutable and unique nature of gender; regardless if it is a matter of divinity or chromosomal (in my opinion, both). Thus, boys and girls ought to have an opportunity to understand their gender-specific strengths and limitations. What is the harm anyway in a Boy Scouts is there is an equally successful Girl Scouts?

Kudos to the LDS church for having a backbone and not bending to the pressure of the world. On a personal level, we must also keep our spines intact and oppose those who want to pervert and manipulate our values and beliefs. "It is easier to fall for anything than to stand for something."
